VIRTUAL MFA 12-Week Mentorship: Get the Tools &

Confidence to Become the Writer You Want to Be -

Make Your Stories Powerful!

IT'S A MYTH that writing has to be difficult.

It doesn’t.

In fact, writing can be one of the deepest pleasures of your life.

It can be deeply joyful.

But you need three things:

The right mindset, motivation, and method.

Specifically, you need the mindset, motivation, and methods of professional writers.

MIndset: To keep going until a project is finished, we have to approach the work in the right way, applying empowering attitudes and beliefs.

Motivation: We need to light the spark of inspiration repeatedly - this mentorship, with its individual attention, will do exactly that.

Methods: We need to learn technical writing and storytelling skills (show don't tell, point of view, story structure, to name a few) but which ones do you need to write and complete your stories?

In the mentorship, we'll zero in on your immediate learning needs as they relate to your current project.

Your enjoyment in your work will sky-rocket, as will your satisfaction. Your craft and confidence will be transformed.

So if you want to finally gain control of your writing process, enjoy it so much more, and FINISH your story, scroll down to learn more...

I'm ready!

If you have any questions about how this mentoring cohort program might work for you, please feel free to set up a call with me or email any questions to [email protected].

Here’s how the investment breaks down:

The five asynchronous on-demand video courses included are:

Short Story Ideas in an Hour (usually $47)

How to Write a Short Story (usually $147)

How to Create a Compelling Character (usually $197)

How to Write Flash Fiction or Memoir (usually $385)

How to Revise Your Fiction (usually $385)

Also included is the Live Edits 7-week biweekly class, (usually $297)

TOTAL $1161 + $297 =

GRAND TOTAL $1458.

The 12-week Mentorship costs $1999 but, because these 5 courses are included for free, that brings the value of the mentorship down to $540

So this means the value of the 12 weeks of mentoring is only $540.

That works out to $45 a week.

For $45 each week, you get:

  1. The Live Edits class for 7 weeks, bi-weekly. (STARTS 4/14/23. Details below).
  2. The 90 min live VMFA workshop on Wednesdays at 4 - 5.30 PM EST / 1 - 2.30 PST
  3. 2 x 60 min live write-ins
  4. Written feedback on 750 words a week
  5. Email communications between classes to discuss your obstacles or ideas

This is a unique mentoring program designed to save you months or years of time.

I’ll laser-focus on where you are now as a writer, help you crystallize your goals, and show you precisely how to get there in the most relaxed, fun, and efficient manner.

It’s a price that’s kind of unheard of in our industry and the mentoring focus is so individual - I wish I’d found something like this twenty years ago. It would’ve saved me so much time!

So don't continue to let frustration and disappointment hold you back. Join me today and take the first step towards achieving your writing dreams.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

It's for you if:

~ You've written (or started) a story and are having trouble finishing it.

~ You're going more slowly than you would like (We've all been there!)

~ You need help making decisions about the arc of your story

~ You know your characters need work to make them compelling

~ You need to learn how to edit your own work

~ You want to learn how to structure powerful stories even though you're a discovery writer

Hi, I'm Tessa Smith McGovern. I’m an award-winning author who absolutely loves helping writers write and publish.

I've been a writing instructor for 23 years and have taught since 2011 for The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College, NY.

My books have been published traditionally by Sourcebooks/Random House as well as independently (so I know how wildly different the two editing processes are!). Both books were bestsellers in their categories on Amazon.

HERE ARE THE FULL DETAILS OF THE LIVE EDITS PROGRAM (Included FREE in the VMFA Mentorship)

~ 6 sessions twice a month (90 minutes) on Zoom with lifetime access to recordings.

Bi-weekly live sessions start 4/14/23, Fridays at 2 PM ET/11 AM PST.

If you can't make a session, you can always watch the recording.

The recordings are valuable - we can learn more from an edit on someone else's story because we aren't emotionally involved and can see more clearly.

~ The 30 rules of self-editing (with transcripts)

~ Analysis of prose published in top markets such as The New York Times' Modern Love' and Tiny Love Stories', and modern classic authors and best-selling authors.

~ Edits of one double-spaced page of your story which you can then apply to each page of your story.

(Anyone who doesn't get edited one week will go to the top of the list for the next session.)

~ Laser-focused instruction on the line editing skills every writer must have.

~ The terms professional editors use to line edit so you can easily understand them

~ Editing guidance from the premier textbook used to teach fiction writing to MFA students in U.S. colleges.

You'll learn how to make your story the strongest it can be on your own before getting feedback from the fresh eyes of professional editors or submitting it for publication.

This saves you money and time and aids in the process of developing your writing craft as well as your sensibilities as an artist.

It also gives you the vocabulary you'll need to easily communicate with professional editors.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE WORKSHOP?

Simply show up to the Zoom session and share a Google Doc with one page/250 words of your story.

Or email it ahead of time to [email protected].

We'll read the page aloud then I’ll share my screen and edit it for you.

And don't worry, one page is more than enough for learning to take place, I promise!

Then you can apply that learning to the other pages in your chapter or story.

Tessa will live-edit as many people as possible in the 90-minute session.

If you don't get edited, you will be first to be edited in the following session.

DO I HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE MY WORK CRITIQUED?

No, not at all!

Feel free to attend without sharing your work so you can learn the skills you need to edit your own stories.

Please Note: Learning these editing skills is fun and so rewarding!

There's a reason authors write and edit stories their whole lives long - it can be deeply satisfying and joyful when you use the right approach.

You'll learn all the skills a writer needs to make their first drafts powerful.

AND WHAT ELSE WILL THIS DO FOR YOU?

1. You'll feel wonderfully empowered to know that you've got these skills in your toolbox.

2. You'll feel a new confidence in your writing (and your excitement to write will explode!)

3. You'll be secure in the knowledge that you can now do justice to the ideas and stories in your head.

3. You'll know the satisfaction of applying a time-tested, professional editing system to your stories - you'll line edit your stories using the same process professional writers use.

4. You'll become part of an elite group of writers with high-level knowledge who are confident in their ability to WORK the creative process and have fun on the journey to publishing.

By the end of this bi-weekly, 6-session program, your ability to edit your stories will be transformed.

If you apply yourself to this material, your first draft writing will transform, and you'll come up with stories you'd stronger than you've ever written before.

I know because that's what happened to me, and I can show you how to do it too.

WHAT'S THE COST OF THE THREE-MONTH LIVE EDITS PROGRAM?

The cost is usually $297 (but is included FREE with the VMFA Mentorship).

Remember, 99% of writing is learnable.

It becomes easy once you know the rules (and once you know them, then you can break them!). It can become fun, and so deeply rewarding!

And the best part? You have lifetime access to all the LIVE EDITS recordings.

By the end of the 12-week Virtual MFA Mentorship, you will have exploded your writing - you'll practice the mindset, motivation, and methods of professional writers.

You'll supercharge the soul-affirming journey of becoming the writer you long to be.

And once your learning expands your heart and mind, you'll never go back. You'll continue to evolve into a more sophisticated craftsperson and artist.

If you have any questions, please email Tessa at tessasmithmcgovern @ gmail.com.

I look forward to seeing you soon!
