7-WEEK VIDEO COURSE WITH INSTRUCTOR FEEDBACK
HOW TO REVISE YOUR FICTION 1
An essential 7-week class for anyone writing memoir or fiction.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
It's for you if you've written (or started) a story and aren't sure how to go about revising it.
Or if you've tried revising and aren't sure if you made things better or worse. (We've all done it!)
It's also for you if the thought of self-editing makes you feel overwhelmed or tentative.
Hi, I'm Tessa Smith McGovern and I completely understand. It took me years to master self-editing but, after publishing 70+ short stories and two books, I've been able to distill the basics into this course. I'm an English writer living in the US and I've taught writing for 22 years (since 2011 at Sarah Lawrence College's Writing Institute) and I've been fortunate enough to have two Amazon-bestselling, award-winning books: London Road: Linked Stories (eChook Digital Publishing) and Cocktails for Book Lovers (Sourcebooks). I'm also the host of BookGirlTV, a book review channel on YouTube that has over two million views (do stop by to say hi!).
WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER?
This step-by-step course covers the foundational skills that every writer needs to revise their fiction.
You'll learn how to make your story the best you can on your own before getting feedback from the fresh eyes of qualified readers or professional editors.
This saves you money and time and aids in the process of developing your writing craft as well as your sensibilities as an artist.
Please Note: Learning these foundational skills is fun! It's wonderfully empowering to know you've got these skills in your toolbox. You'll feel a new confidence in your writing and your ability to do justice to the ideas and stories in your head.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
The fundamentals of fiction writing - what every writer needs to write powerful stories.
The Arc of a Successful Story
Compelling Characters
Characterization and Exposition
Show, Don't Tell
Point of View
Dialogue and Interior Monologue
Voice - The Secret Sauce
Plus a Revision Checklist (use this for every story you write)
There will be a video lecture every Friday at 2 PM for seven weeks with an accompanying printable transcript and a 300 - 500 word assignment on that week's topic.
You can either write new words for your assignment or send 300 - 500 words of an existing story for feedback.
This is a seven-week course with instructor feedback. The cost is $385.
WHEN DOES IT BEGIN?
Remember, revising your fiction becomes easy once you know the system.
Revising becomes fun, and so deeply rewarding!
And the best part? You have lifetime access to this course.
By the end, you will have exploded your fiction writing knowledge and skills.
As you continue to write and learn, you'll continue to develop into the writer you long to be. Once your learning expands, it can never go back. You will continue to evolve into a more sophisticated craftsperson and artist.
For that reason, I recommend re-watching the course and re-doing the assignments every six months or so (only send the assignments the first time). Each time you take it, you'll be in a different place and you'll see and integrate things you didn't see before, and it will lift you to an even higher level of craft and art.
If you have any questions, please email Tessa at tessasmithmcgovern @ gmail.com.
I look forward to seeing you soon!
