Itâs a myth that writing has to be slow and difficult.
It doesnât.
Are you ready to discover the AMAZING flash fiction or memoir you can write when you follow the right steps?
Some people think writing flash is a mysterious process, that it canât be boiled down to a formula.Â
But the truth is, there IS a formula to writing a piece of flash.
There is a process that writers follow, whether they're aware of it or not.
And that process is reliable. It works for ALL types of writing from literary fiction to genre fiction.Â
Writing flash fiction or memoir becomes easy once you know the process.Â
Writing becomes fun again, and so deeply rewarding!Â
Thatâs why many authors continue to write flash their whole lives.
Hi, I'm Tessa Smith McGovern. I've been an author/instructor for 26 years and I've taught for The Writing Institute, Sarah Lawrence College, NY, since 2011. I'm the founder of Bloom Writers' Studio online which helps writers of all levels write and publish. I'm co-founder of PitchFest which brings top literary agents to hear pitches from writers in person and virtually and I'm a talent scout for the Allen Literary Agency.
I'm an award-winning writer whose linked short story collection, LONDON ROAD: LINKED STORIES, received a âFeaturedâ review from Kirkus, was an Amazon best-seller and a gold medal winner in the 2012 eLit Awards. My non-fiction book, COCKTAILS FOR BOOK LOVERS (Sourcebooks), was also an Amazon best-seller and the 2014 best-selling gift book for Sourcebooks Inc.
My first flash fiction was published in 1996 and my credits include the Connecticut Review and Equinox, a UK poetry journal archived by the English Arts Council at the Southbank Centre, London. I'm currently writing a fantasy novel inspired by British mythology and completing a low-res. MFA in Writing at the Vermont College of Fine Arts.
I'm host of BookGirlTV on YouTube, an award-winning digital channel that has 2 million+ minutes. Bloom Writers' Studio has 10k followers on Facebook. I co-host the The Westport Library's popular podcast, 'Go Ahead, Write Something' that offers the latest, actionable information to help people write and publish.
I write flash fiction, memoir, short stories, and novels and one of my deepest joys is to help my students bloom as they write.
This new online course, compiled from my 26 years of experience as an author and instructor, will give you a blueprint for writing flash and unlock your creativity in surprising and delightful ways.
And the best part? You can use this course over and over again - simply make new choices each time you go through the videos and write as many stories as you like.

Let me teach you the cure for writer's block and unfinished drafts.
The hard truth is this: Sometimes, even though you yearn to write and know you have stories inside you, lifeâs just too busy and you havenât got time to think up any good ideas. It can feel like the Muse has abandoned you.
At other times, you walk around with characters and story ideas in your head and maybe you get a few ideas down on paper - or you even start to write the story - but then things blow up at work or the cat gets ill or your family needs you and those ideas - suffocated by inattention and lack of time - evaporate.
And it can be hard to work on a story when you donât know if your idea will work in the first place.
What if your idea is boring?
What would be a good first sentence?
How do you craft a satisfying ending?
So days turn into weeks and still you havenât written the story. Before you realize it, that pressing, once-vital idea evaporates into thin air.
The story that could-have-been never sees the light of day while other writers, with stories that might be less compelling, continue to write and publish.
How do they do it?Â
They have a process.Â
Imagine if you had a process too...your words will flow and youâll never lose another idea to the ether again.
And after 30 years of writing and 26 years of teaching, I've discovered the #1 most effective way to get your flash fiction or memoir written.
Even if you've started and abandoned a piece of flash before, or even if youâve never even begun to capture your ideas on paperâŚ
It's not too late to start.Â
I promise you, it's not too late to turn everything around.
Imagine if you could let go of self-doubt and get your ideas out of your head and onto the page? If you could just feel the satisfaction of getting that flash fiction or memoir written?Â
- âBreak the endless pattern of thinking about the ideas your soul is dreaming and wishing you could write them and instead, easily get those words down on the page
- âStop reading other peopleâs stories or watching TV and thinking, I could write that! and start enjoying the process of crafting your own stories.Â
- âGo to bed each night feeling satisfied because youâve shown up for, and tended to, your Soul
- Feel excited about the next dayâs creativity
- Enjoy the deep sense of accomplishment that comes from finishing a story in a way that scratches the deepest itch. In a way that delights and satisfies youÂ
- âFeel the joy of capturing your creativity in a productive way, of creating a piece of flash others can also enjoy.
- Easily finish your first piece of flash, and many more, using this course
- Become the writer you long to be
...all just by taking this ONE course and following the steps inside.
What if you could start seeing results in five minutes?
Yes, really.
In five minutes you can get a solid first draft of your flash on the page.
What if you become familiar with the elements of flash - if your mind quickly and easily internalizes the blueprints - and those ideas in your head become flash stories that readers can enjoy?Â
What if you could start and finish your flash in five minutes with my step-by-step guide that'll make you confident your idea is solid?
What if this was the best time investment you ever made in your writing journey?Â
Iâm sure you know many people who have goals to write but year after year nothing changes. Theyâre still stuck in the same old rut. You donât want that.
None of us is immortal. We only have a limited time on this earth to create something meaningful. But if we donât take action, itâll never happen.
This course will lead you easily, step by step, through the process.
Very often, what gets in the way is the story in our head that says, "I have to write a perfect story."Â
We dream of creating a story that does this because itâs exactly the experience we had as readers. Itâs probably one of the things that made us want to write in the first place.
But itâs a trap!Â
A trap we create for ourselves...it's self-sabotage, pure and simple.
Writers know the first draft wonât be perfect and the pain of falling short of our dream - of disappointing ourselves - stops us from moving forward.
What if, instead, you could...
Break the endless pattern of procrastination
and replace it with fun, quick techniques that GET YOU INSPIRED and writing.
Go to bed each night feeling satisfied
that you tended your Soul and FURTHERED YOUR PROGRESS AS A WRITER.
Easily face down the blinking cursor
on an empty page, armed with the tools to WRITE A SUCCESSFUL PIECE OF FLASH that you learn in this course.
Why do we sabotage ourselves?
We don't mean to.
We forget that those stories that inspired us were once rough first drafts, too.
If your favorite authors had never written the first, rough draft, those stories you love wouldnât exist.
And itâs exactly the same with YOUR flash fiction or memoir.
If you donât get the first rough draft on the page, you have nothing to revise. Nothing to turn into a powerful piece of flash.
And I know what you might be thinking here - what if I write something thatâs so rough, I canât turn it into a satisfying story?
I totally get it. No one wants that.
Thereâs a way to approach your flash fiction or memoir so that your first draft IS powerful and solid.Â
Not perfect, but SOLID. Solid enough that youâll clearly see its value, you'll have shared a piece of your Soul, and youâll be excited to finish it.

FAQs
Will this course work if Iâm a complete beginner?
Yes! Remember that your subconscious mind has been recording stories since before you were five. This course will teach you all about the process of writing flash and how to write one. Your Soul dreams the stories and the mind executes them. You have a lot of stories inside you, even if youâve never written one before.
Will this course work if Iâve already finished, or even published, some stories?
Yes. It will make your next flash fiction or memoir even more powerful and much more fun to write!Â
Does knowing this simple process for writing flash mean youâll write the same story repeatedly? Will it inhibit your originality?
No. Itâs a process that provides inspiration and structure without limiting your imagination in any way.
Will knowing this process magically turn you into Anne Tyler or Neil Gaiman overnight?Â
No. But then, you wouldnât want that. The only artist you want to be is YOU.
Thereâs only one of you in the world, with your unique sensibilities and skills, and thatâs the writer -- the artist -- that you can become.
Will this course work for people who struggle with perfectionism?
Yes! Writing flash is LITERALLY the antidote to perfectionism. It will show you how to let go of the outcome, get into flow, and easily write your flash pieces.Â
Will this course work for non-techie people?
Yes. Just watch (or listen to) the video every week, read the daily email you receive that has prompts, and download the PDF that goes with each video. Thatâs it!
