How to Write a Novel With Best-Selling 6-Time Novelist Barbara Josselsohn
Want to start, continue, or finish your novel?
You probably already know how easy it is to lose enthusiasm for your novel, to get lost down a rabbit hole, or simply get stuck.
We've all been there! 🤦
Writers waste months - and even years - trying to go it alone.
To save time and pointless frustration, you need an experienced guide who'll motivate you.
And not just any guide.
Barbara Josselsohn is the author of six novels and her classes at The Writing Institute, Sarah Lawrence College regularly sell out.
She knows all the practical elements novelists need: characters, setting, and plot.
She also knows how to stay motivated, finish, revise, and publish novels.
Over 7 weeks, Barbara will share everything you need to make progress with your novel - whether you're just starting or in the middle of a revision.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
How Did They Do That?
As writers, we learn the rules considered crucial for crafting great stories. But then, inevitably, we come across a story that breaks the rules and still succeeds—or even one that seems to succeed precisely because the author broke rules.
Ever wonder: how did they do that? In this workshop, we’ll answer that very question!
Using two recent top-selling novels – LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY by Bonnie Garmus and MALIBU RISING by Taylor Jenkins Reed – we’ll do a deep dive into select passages to analyze just how the author diverted from conventional storytelling and to what effect.
Writers will also have the chance to “try out” the author’s techniques.
You'll get assignments that prompt you to write pieces you would never have written otherwise.
This is a fascinating exploration and you'll love the feeling of increased confidence you get as you understand how best-selling authors achieve their effects through this close reading.
7-week online class starts on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
Each week, you'll be given an assignment and you'll get Barbara's feedback on 500 words (2 pages) of your writing.
That may not seem like much but we've found it's actually the optimal amount of writing to allow the instructor to assess your writing direction and make suggestions for any adjustments or additions.
This class costs $385.
Class is limited to 12 writers.
